Opening Your POS After Securing the Tablet Overnight
To help prevent theft, many shops store or hide the POS tablet after closing. Follow the steps below each morning to safely and quickly get your system back up and ready for service.
Step 1: Inspect the Payment Case Hardware
- Remove the tablet from its secure storage location. If you store your tablet overnight.
- Check for any visible damage.
- Confirm the charging cable and power source are working properly.
If the battery is low, place the tablet on the basic dock immediately before continuing.

Step 2: Power On the Tablet
- Hold the power button that is on the left hand side until the screen turns on.
- If prompted, unlock the device using your store’s passcode.
Allow the device a moment to reconnect to Wi-Fi or reboot the tablet to engage T-Mobile.
Step 2.5 - Basic Dock Power Agnostic
Just for full understanding of th hardware set up.
- The power source is underneath the Basic Dock via a USB C port. So ensure the power cable is stable if you have any issues with power.
- Also be aware that you can not charge the tablet directly to the side port of the tablet if you have it placed via the Basic Dock.
Step 3: Confirm Internet Connection
- Check that the tablet is connected to your store’s Wi-Fi or has 4G turned on.
- If Wi-Fi does not reconnect automatically, open device settings and manually select the correct network or operate 100% on cellular signal. .
A stable connection is required for orders, payments, and syncing.
Step 3.5 - Internet Down transition 100% T-Mobile
If you do encounter internet issues go to your settings and follow these steps.

- Network and Internet
- Review Internet and mobile connections
- If you want 100% Cellular Select Internet (Tap) where it says intern
- In your Internet page you will see a toggle button to the right of "WiFi"
- Once your disable the toggle on WiFi you will see "T-Mobile" kick in and become your internet provider.
- When you return back to Network & Internet you will see theat both the Mobile Network and Internet will showcase T-Mobile.
Step 4: Launch the Joe POS App
- Open the Joe POS app from the home screen.
- Open Cash Till if you operate with a "Required Cash Till" workflow.
- Or clock in and prompt Barista to Login to begin tracking tips
If you experience login issues, confirm you are using the correct PIN or contact your manager.
Step 5: Check Hardware Connections
Before opening for customers, confirm:
- Card reader is connected and powered on.
- Receipt printer is on and has paper.
- Cash drawer is connected.
- Customer-facing screen (if applicable) is powered on and paired.
Step 5.5 - Trouble Shooting Card Reader Connection with Payment Case
If you have any issues connecting the card reader or reconnecting the card reader.
- Take off the tablet from the dock
- Reboot the device (Turn off and on)
- Open the Joe App
- Go to Card Reader Settings
- Place the Tablet back on the Basic Dock
Step 6: Verify Menu & Order Flow
- Start a test order.
- Confirm items load properly.
- Cancel the test order before proceeding.
This ensures the system is fully synced and ready for service.
Troubleshooting Tips
If something is not working:
- Restart the tablet.
- Restart the card reader.
- Confirm Wi-Fi connection.
- Reach out to support if issues persist.
Starting the day with a quick system check prevents delays during peak morning rush and keeps service smooth.
Your POS should be fully operational before the first customer walks in.
