Setting Up Ticket Print Tasks
Printer Compatibility
joe supports Star Micronics printers in the following connection types:
- Bluetooth – Compatible with joe Merchant PLUS (one device only)
- USB – Compatible with joe Merchant PLUS (one device only)
- Ethernet – Can connect to multiple devices
Before connecting your printer to joe, follow these steps to prepare the device:
- Connect the printer to power.
- Load receipt paper into the printer.
- Run a test print:
- Turn the printer OFF.
- Press and hold the Feed button.
- While holding, turn the printer ON.
- Release the Feed button when printing begins.
- Two receipts will print. The second receipt includes important setup info, such as Bluetooth status.
Connecting a Printer to joe
Bluetooth Printer (joe Merchant PLUS only)
- Power on the printer.
- Enable Bluetooth pairing:
- Press and hold the red Pairing button on the back of the printer for 5 seconds until the green LED flashes.
- Pair via device settings:
- On your POS device, go to Settings > Bluetooth and tap Star Micronics to pair.
- Connect in joe POS:
- Open the joe app, tap the Gear icon → Printers → Connect via Bluetooth.
- In the Nearby Printers window, tap your printer name → Add Printer.
USB Printer
Required: Anker USB-C adapter, USB-B to USB-C cable
- Plug the USB-B end into the printer and the USB-C end into the Anker adapter.
- Connect power to the adapter using the PD port.
- On joe POS:
- Tap the Gear icon → Printers → Scroll to USB Printer → Add USB Printer.
- Select your printer from the list → Add Printer.
Ethernet Printer
Supports multiple device connections
- Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into your router or modem.
- Plug the other end into the LAN port on the printer.
- Wait for the printer light to turn green, indicating a successful network connection.
- On joe POS:
- Tap the Gear icon → Printers → Scroll to Ethernet Printer → Add Ethernet Printer.
- Select your printer → Add Printer.
Additional Notes
- By default, all printer types will print a receipt and itemized ticket for each order.
- Tap the pencil icon to edit these defaulted print tasks.
- Only Ethernet printers support multi-device connections.
- Bluetooth and USB printers can connect to one device at a time.

With the latest update to the joe POS system, you now have greater flexibility and control over your printer settings. This guide walks you through how to set up and customize Ticket Print Tasks using the new features available in the Printers tab.
What's New in the Printers Tab
The redesigned Printers tab now includes expanded options for easier printer management and task customization:
🔹 Printer Name
- Clearly see the name of each printer connected to your POS.
- Easily identify and manage multiple printers, especially in multi-station environments.
🔹 Task Type
- Choose what type of task the printer should perform using the drop-down menu.
- Available task types include:
Task Type | Description |
| Receipt | Prints a customer receipt for every order. Tip: For selective receipt printing, leave this task off and print manually from the completed order screen. |
| Item Ticket | This task is to print tickets for items purchased. • Individual – Default; prints one ticket per category/item. (Prints tickets for items by category (e.g., hot drinks, cold drinks, food & upsell). |
| Cash Drawer | Sends a signal to open the connected cash drawer. Helps streamline cash transactions. |
| Till Report | Prints a summary report of daily cash transactions for shift reconciliation. |
| Saved Ticket | Automatically prints saved tickets based on printer configuration. |
| End of Night Report | Prints a daily summary of all transactions, helping with bookkeeping and closing procedures. |
🔹 Printer Size
- 80mm paper size (standard for most receipt printers)
57mm paper size (for smaller format printers)
Ensure this matches your printer hardware and paper roll type for proper formatting.
How to Set Up Ticket Print Tasks
- On your joe POS, tap the Gear icon from the sidebar.
- Go to Printers and select the connected printer you’d like to configure.
- Tap the pencil icon next to the printer name to edit settings.
- Under Task Type, choose the desired task(s) from the drop-down menu.
- If configuring Item Ticket, select either Individual or Merged format.
- Choose the correct Printer Size to match your paper roll.
- Save your changes.
Pro Tips
- For multiple stations, assign different printers to specific tasks (e.g., drink station vs. kitchen).
- Use Merged Item Tickets in high-volume shops to speed up fulfillment.
- Assign Cash Drawer tasks only to the main checkout station for security.
✅ Testing Your Printer Settings
To make sure your printer settings are configured correctly:
- Tap the "..." in the top left corner of the Printer Settings screen.
- Select Print to run a test.
- This will verify your setup and confirm that your printer is connected and functioning properly.
