How to Disable TalkBack on an Android Device
If you notice a green or blue box highlighting items on your screen, or if your device is reading content aloud and responding differently to touch, the TalkBack feature may have been accidentally enabled.
TalkBack is an Android accessibility feature designed to assist visually impaired users by providing voice feedback and gesture-based navigation.
What Happens When TalkBack Is On
- A green or blue box highlights the item currently selected.
- Single taps no longer activate items — you must double-tap to select.
- You must use two fingers to scroll.
The screen may seem unresponsive or locked, but it’s just interpreting touch differently.
Quick Way to Turn Off TalkBack
Press and hold both volume keys on your device for a few seconds.
You’ll hear a voice confirmation when TalkBack has been turned off.
If That Doesn’t Work: Manually Turn Off TalkBack
- Open Settings
- Go to Accessibility
- Tap TalkBack
- Toggle TalkBack Off (Once disabled, your device will return to normal touch navigation.)
