If you’ve sold your coffee shop, we’re here to help make the ownership transition on joe as smooth as possible. Depending on how the sale was structured, there are two ways to transfer ownership. Before getting started, it’s important to confirm a few business details so we can guide you to the right option.
We recommend reviewing this article and notifying the joe team at least one week before the official transition date so we can ensure everything is adjusted as needed.
Before You Begin: Will the Owner keep the EIN?
The key factor in determining the correct path is whether the legal business entity is changing. Your Doing Business As (DBA) name is not the same as the parent company. Even if the shop name (DBA) stays the same, a change in EIN or legal entity means the account should be set up differently.
If the EIN will move with the new owner so there is no change in legal structure, follow Option 1 below. If they have a different parent company/EIN, follow Option 2.
Option 1: New Owner is acquiring the EIN/Parent Company, add the new owner to the existing joe Account
Steps
- The current owner logs into their Joe account.
- Go to Teams & Roles tab.
- Click the red Create User button.
- Add the new owner’s information and add them as an Owner-level user.
- Have them login to Merchant Manager and accept the invitation
Why choose this option
- No changes needed to menus, branding, or shop setup
- Fastest transition to full control
- Sales history and customer data remain intact
Option 2: Different Parent Company/EIN, New Owner Creates a New joe Account
Steps
- The new owner registers for a new account at:
👉https://manage.joe.coffee/signup - During onboarding, our team can help transfer:
- Storefront details
- Menu
- The previous owner can then deactivate or retire the original account.
Why choose this option
- Clean separation from the prior owner
- Full control over legal, financial, and branding details
- Ideal for rebrands or new business entities
Things to keep in mind
- Sales history and customer data do not carry over
- We recommend exporting reports from the old account before closing it
- We will need to repair the devices to the new parent company before the new owners begin accepting orders.
