Release Notes — August 2026
For Partner Merchants
Date: August 13, 2026
What's in this release: A rebuilt Square connection, orders & refunds in the dashboard, a round of reliability fixes, plus the groundwork for RepChain revenue sharing
Two things headline this release. Square is back, rebuilt from the ground up in the new merchant dashboard — the connection is more reliable and the setup is simpler than the version it replaces.
The dashboard also gains a full orders, order-detail, and refund section. Alongside them, a round of fixes for — curbside arrival, cart pricing, refund amounts, menu editing, and closing out the register. This release also carries automatic revenue sharing for companies in the RepChain program — included, but switched off until a company is enrolled.
No pricing changes. No changes to how rewards are earned.
TL;DR — What's New at a Glance
| What Partners May Notice | What Changed |
|---|---|
| A patron taps “I'm Here” and the shop isn't notified | Fixed. The button now stays available until the shop actually receives it, and arrivals raised while a store's tablet was offline are delivered when it reconnects. |
| A patron's cart won't price or let them check out | Fixed. If something in a patron's cart is no longer available, it's removed automatically and named in a message, instead of blocking the whole cart. |
| A patron's order is declined with a confusing message | Fixed. Order-rejection messages are written in plain language now. |
| A patron doesn't get the “Add Payment Method” button in their inbox | Fixed. That message now includes the button again. |
| What happened to the Square connection? | Rebuilt. Square now lives in the new dashboard, connected per store, with a more reliable sync than before. |
| Can I see and refund orders from the dashboard? | New. The merchant dashboard now has an orders list, order detail, and a refund flow. |
| Will RepChain change my payouts? | Not yet. The revenue-sharing plumbing ships in this release, switched off. Nothing changes for any store until joe enrolls your company in the program. |
| The refund screen showed the wrong amount | Fixed. Refund totals are recalculated each time you open the screen. |
| I couldn't refund an order from another one of my stores | Fixed — for managers with access to that store. |
| Donations were missing from the refund screen | Fixed. Donation lines now appear alongside tip and tax. |
| Closing the register threw an error even though it worked | Fixed. Closing an already-closed register now shows a clear message instead of an error screen. |
| Exporting my menu failed | Fixed. Large menu exports complete instead of timing out. |
| Menu buttons and links did nothing when I clicked them | Fixed. Links you don't have access to are hidden, and clicking one no longer signs you out. |
What Changed for Your Patrons
These items affect the ordering experience your patrons have with your shop — shared here so you know what changed and can speak to it if a patron asks.
What was wrong: When a patron tapped “I'm Here,” the button hid immediately. If the request didn't land — or your tablet was offline at that moment — nothing reached the counter, and the patron had no way to send it again.
What's better now:
- The button stays available until your shop confirms it received the patron's arrival.
- Arrivals raised while your tablet was disconnected are delivered as soon as it comes back online.
- Tapping twice no longer sends two alerts.
If a patron's order showed no arrival awareness at your store, this should now be resolved.
What was wrong: If your shop removed an item, size, or option after a patron added it to their cart, the whole cart stopped working — it wouldn't price, edit, or check out — and nothing told the patron which line was the problem.
What's better now:
- Lines that are no longer available are removed from the patron's cart automatically.
- A single message names exactly what was removed and why.
- The rest of the cart prices and checks out normally.
Order-rejection messages are now written in plain language for patrons. If your shop's system can't accept an order, patrons get clear wording instead of a technical description.
When we ask a patron to update a payment method, the message now includes the “Add Payment Method” button — it had been getting dropped from that message.
Suggested items in the ordering flow were failing to load for patrons. That's fixed.
What Changed for You
Square isn't new to joe — but this version is. The whole integration was rebuilt from scratch for the new merchant dashboard rather than carried over, so connecting a store is simpler and the sync between the two systems is considerably more dependable than the version it replaces.
Stores connect to Square per location. Orders flow between the two systems, and order status stays in sync as items are prepared and completed. Improvements over the previous version:
- Disconnecting one store no longer disconnects your other stores that share the same Square account.
- Recalled pickup orders no longer incorrectly show as “Customer Arrived.”
- Cancellations and rejections are sent to Square once, in the right order, and retried if the connection fails.
- After you enable a store setting, the Integrations screen reflects it right away rather than after a refresh.
The dashboard now includes an orders list, a full order detail view, and a refund flow. Fixes bundled in:
- Donations now show on the order summary, alongside tip and tax.
- Refund amounts are recalculated each time you open the refund screen. Previously a stale amount could be displayed after a prior refund.
- Orders from your other stores can be refunded if you have manager access to that store — previously this returned an error page. Managers scoped to a single store still can't refund another store's orders.
- Refunds on orders that aren't complete behave the same in the dashboard as they do on the POS.
joe can now settle orders for companies in the RepChain program. When it's active for your company, each order's proceeds are split automatically at payment time: the program's beneficiaries receive their shares, and you receive the rest of the order — along with your usual promo, reward, and discount reimbursements, which don't change. Refunds work the same way in reverse: each shared portion is returned automatically.
Two things worth knowing up front:
- RepChain itself never touches the money. It only tells joe how an order should be split — every transfer is handled by joe through Stripe, like the rest of your payments.
- Beneficiary shares are paid out on a daily schedule with a short hold, so refunds can be handled cleanly.
Not active yet: This ships switched off. Nothing changes for any store — order proceeds, reimbursements, payouts, or timing — until joe enrolls your company in the program, and enrollment is coordinated with you before anything is turned on.
Closing a register that was already closed showed an error screen even though the close had worked. It now shows a clear message instead. Register amounts must be whole cents; a fractional amount is rejected with a message rather than an error.
Known limit — no historical fix: This prevents the error going forward. Registers closed before this release were closed correctly even when the error screen appeared — no data was lost.
- Editing a modifier option while it's assigned to an item no longer errors.
- Menu editing cleanup: item images are genuinely optional (the asterisk suggesting otherwise is gone), $0 prices are handled correctly, and buttons that did nothing were removed.
- Switching between companies no longer signs you out. Moving away from a company where you're a former owner was ending your session.
- Menu links you can't open are hidden instead of sitting there doing nothing when clicked — Teams & Roles, Marketing, and Customers were affected.
- Former owners can edit their own profile. The Edit Profile page was showing up empty.
- Invitations sent while you're already signed in work immediately — no need to sign out and back in.
- Restricted pages show a proper message rather than a blank screen.
What Did Not Change
- No pricing, tax, or discount logic changes.
- No changes to how reward points are earned or redeemed.
- No changes to the patron checkout or tipping flow.
- No changes to payouts or payout timing. (RepChain revenue sharing ships in this release but is not active for any company yet — see above.)
- No changes to the POS app itself in this release — POS ships on its own schedule.
If you notice a behavioral change in something not listed above, it isn't caused by this release — please reach out to support.
