Purchasing & Paying with Physical Gift Cards

Purchasing Gift Cards
Your barista will have two options in selling gift cards at the register. Customers can purchase a single gift card, or bulk purchase multiple gift cards for a group of friends, family members, or other community members. Below goes through both scenarios for your baristas.
Individual Gift Card Purchases
- Tap on the Gift Card Icon in the top right hand corner of the menu screen
- Select Purchase Physical Gift Cards followed by Individual Purchase
- Swipe the Gift Card using the black card reader or manually input the 12-digit code on the back of the card
- Enter the upload Amount the gift card value followed by Finish
- Complete payment
Purchase Multiple Gift Cards at One Time
When customers want to purchase more that one gift card at a time, using the Bulk Purchase option lets baristas upload up to 10 gift cards at one time:
- Tap on the Gift Card Icon in the top right hand corner of the menu screen
- Select Purchase Physical Gift Cards followed by Bulk Purchase
- Enter the Gift Card amount
- Swipe the first Gift Card using the black card reader or manually input the 12-digit code on the back of the card
- Tap Next, then swipe the second gift card. Follow this for each individual gift card.
- Tap Finish to add gift cards to cart and complete checkout.
- Complete payment
Paying with a Gift Card
There are 3 different scenarios of how a customer will be able to pay at the register using the reward balance:
- Paying with a Physical Gift Card as a Rewards Member
- Paying with a Physical Gift Card but opting out of Rewards
- Paying digitally with a Rewards Balance
Below we'll detail each of these options. Each gif demonstrates the barista checkout experience (top) and the customer checkout experience (bottom).
1 - Paying with a Physical Card as a Rewards Member
- At checkout, customer inputs their Rewards phone number and the barista will notice the customer's Rewards profile on display at checkout
- Barista taps the Gift Card Icon as a payment method
- It will prompt the customer to enter tip
- Swipe the gift card, or manually input the 12-digit code to complete payment
2 - Paying with a Gift Card as a Non-Rewards Member
- At checkout, customer selects "No Thanks" on the loyalty screen facing them (opt-ing out of the Rewards program)
- Barista taps the Gift Card Icon as a payment method
- It will prompt the customer to enter tip
- Swipe the gift card, or manually input the 12-digit code to complete payment
3 - Pay Digitally with Reward Balance
- At checkout, customer inputs their Rewards phone number
- The barista will notice the customer's Rewards profile, including active balance, on display at checkout and taps Pay with Balance
- It will prompt the customer to enter tip
- Then customer will then receive their unique 4-digit pin via SMS to their phone number on file, or it can be found in their customer joe wallet.
- Then customer should input 4-digit pin number to complete purchase
4 - Convert Physical Gift Card to a Rewards Card
- Customer can convert their card balance to their joe Rewards profile so they can order ahead or digitally in-person
- Customer simply has to enter their phone number
- Select to pay with their Physical Gift Card
- Upon paying the system will indicate if they would like to link their balance on the Physical Gift Card to the profile associated to their number.
5 - Applying a Discount on a Gift Card Purchase
- Select Purchase Flow - Individual or Bulk Purchase
- Swipe or enter the 12 Digit Card Number
- Select "Discount" Button to apply the desired discount on the card
- Ask for Payment Method
- Provide Receipt to Customer
Additional things to know:
- Gift cards will have a unique 12 digit code
- Physical Gift Cards are one time use
- We charge a transaction fee only on the initial transaction of loading funds to a card. We do not charge a transaction fee for paying with the balance that is used at your shop. Because you receive the funds upfront, the payment with gift card will be subtracting from a ledger.
- A customer will be able to merge their accounts with their gift cards by simply entering their phone number at check out. When the gift card is used as payment the balance it will automatically be associated to that phone number and appear in the customers' balance.
- A gift card payment will be able to access a Credit/Debit Card Split Payment Experience for Reward customers who have opted in or confirm their account. Allowing the card balance to brought down to $0
- To upload a gift card via their joe Wallet on the app they will need the physical gift card, enter the 12 digit code, and the 3 digit CVV.
