How to set up your joe POS Hardware

Our goal in this article to support your process in setting up your joe Point of Sale.

First step: 

Ensure you have the hardware listed below for your set up to properly have all cables and power to connect properly. 

Second Step: 

Let's make sure you connect everything accordingly to power and the right locations. 

USB C Customer Tablet 

  • Make sure USB C Cable to USB C Customer Tablet Cable is connected to the Customer Tablet  - (You should see a logo)

USB C Extended Cable

  • Ensure USB Extender Cable is connected to the Barista Facing Samsung Tablet - (You should see a Menu)USB Extension Cable

USB C Adapter + USB C Extender

  • Make sure USB C adapter is connected to the USB C Extender. 

Wall Power Charger 

  • Make sure the power charger “Belkin Cube” is connected to POWER source and the USB cables are connected

USB C Adapter 

  • Make sure USB C Cable for power is connected to PD listed on USB C Adapter and ensure you see a white light and charging indicator on the Samsung Tablet 

Set up your Stripe Reader M2 Card Reader

Note: The Stripe Reader M2 reader must be charged to 100% before pairing to your joe device. 

To set up your bluetooth card reader to your POS:

  1. Ensure the bluetooth on your tablet is turned ON.
  2. Plug in bluetooth card reader cradle to reliable power source and turn ON the bluetooth Stripe Reader M2 card reader by pressing and releasing the power button. The status LEDs turn on and the reader beeps twice.
    1. Note: The reader will wait for a Bluetooth connection for five minutes before turning off.
  3. On joe, tap the Gear icon on the left sidebar to open Settings followed by the Card Readers tab.
  4. Tap Add Card Reader. The POS will search for the bluetooth card reader and request to pair with it. Select Pair in the bluetooth pop up window. 
  5. When the reader connects to the joe POS app on your device, the status LEDs on top of the reader flash four times. After connecting, the first status light begins flashing at five second intervals. 
  6. After paired, we recommend checking for an update and completing a test charge.

Fourth Step: Adding a USB Printer

joe Merchant PLUS is compatible with Star Micronics bluetooth printers. Connecting your joe device to a USB printer is an efficient way to send orders to baristas, and an effective way to ensure consistency. To connect joe to a Star Micronics printer, follow these 3 steps.

Connect your USB Printer 



  1. Make sure you have the Anker USB-C adapter, USB -B and USB-C Cable  available and on hand before you begin. 
  2. On the back of the printer you will see a USB Port that you will want to make sure you insert the cable and then connect the USB-C end to the Anker adapter. 
  3. From there you will will want connect power to the adapter where it says PD 
  4. Then select your printers tab by going to settings - printers - select USB Printer.

3 - Connect to joe & add print tasks

  1. On your joe Merchant PLUS app, select the Gear icon from the left menu sidebar to open joe Settings
  2. Tap Printers > Add Printer and select Bluetooth
  3. Nearby Printers pop up window will open
    1. Tap the desired printer name, followed by Add Printer
    2. Note: Your printer is defaulted to print both a receipt and itemized ticket for ever order. Tap the pencil icon to edit these defaulted print tasks.
  4. Add new print tasks by selecting the blue Add Task button and select
    1. Receipt - details entire order on one receipt
    2. Item Ticket - prints individual receipts for every item in the order 
      1. If you select Item Ticket, choose the Ticket Type (Individual or Merged) and the categories for the ticket
      2. Merged Tickets will print all items on the same ticket
      3. Individual Tickets will print out each item as an individual Ticket
  5. Tap Save
  6. To test your new printer settings: 
    1. Tap the "..." in the left hand corner of the Printer Settings followed by Print
