Promo codes are an effective tool for acquiring new customers and using Joe to turn them into loyal regulars through the app. When combined with featured items and attractive menu images, promo codes can help boost revenue per existing customer by up to 50%.

Now, with Joe Point of Sale, promo codes can also be redeemed in person — creating even more opportunities to drive loyalty and sales!

Promo codes allow you to create percentage discounts (% off), dollar discounts ($ off), or price override deals (e.g., "$1 lattes for a limited time") across individual menu items, entire categories, or your full menu.

Important: There are three critical steps to creating a promo code — setting the code details, timeframes and specifications. Make sure to complete both steps!

Promo Code Navigation

To get started:

1. Log in to your Merchant Manager.
2. Select the Marketing tab from the left-hand menu, then click on the Promotion tab.
3. Here, you’ll see all your Active and Expired promo codes.

Available Filters:

• Store: Filter promo codes by store.  
• Status: View promo codes by status — All, Active, Inactive, Done, Draft, or Expired.
• Search Promo Codes: Search for specific promo codes by name.
• Create Promo Code: Select the red "Create Promo Code" button to begin creating a new promo.

Part 1 - Create the code details

1. Click the Create Promo Code button on the right side
2. Enter the following details about your promo
   1. Code: This is the name of the promo code you will hand out to customers. Make it snappy and memorable! Minimum is 4 letters or numbers, no space and no other characters.
   2. Description: The code description for your promo code needs 
   3. Next, click the orange "+" in the "Deals" section to add more specifics to this promo. Fill in the following information regarding the deal:
      1. Discount Amount
      2. Discount Type ($, %, or price override)
   4. Targeting Type: 
      1. Select the menu you'd like to apply this discount too
      2. Then select the Category, Items and sizes that you'd like to apply the discount

Part 2: Set Promo Code Timeframe

Set when the promo code will be active:

• Start Date: Select the date you want the promo code to go live.
• End Date: Select when the promo code should expire.
• No Expiration: If you want the promo code to run indefinitely, select "No Expiration".

Part 3: Define Promo Code Specifications

Specify usage rules:

• Max Menu Item Price: Set a maximum menu item price that can be discounted if applicable.
• Total Redemption Limit Per Customer: Define how often a customer can use the code:
  • Entire Promotion Period
  • Per Day
  • Unlimited Use (available only for in-person promotions at shops using Joe Point of Sale)

Part 4: Review and Save

• Review all the details you've entered in Parts 1–3 carefully.
• If everything looks correct, click Save.
• If you need more time, you can select Save as Draft to return and complete it later.
