  1. Download joe POS & pair the device
  2. Sync your consumer facing tablet
  3. Connect your bluetooth card reader

1 - Download joe POS & Pair Device

First step is to download the joe merchant app to your iPad that will be used for your in-person POS.

  1. Connect the iPad to your shop's reliable wifi source.
  2. Update settings to enable 'Stay awake':
    1. In iPad Settings > Go to "Display & Brightness"  > Auto Lock > Choose "Never"
  3. Download joe Merchant PLUS app from the iOS App Store on to your POS device
  4. Open joe Merchant PLUS and name the device. We recommend "[Shop Name] POS". This will take you to a QR code.
  5. From your phone, log in to your joe Consumer App
Note: Your consumer account must have "owner status". If you do not have owner status, go to your merchant.joe.coffee > log in > Users > Invite your consumer app email as an "Owner". Or contact us at help@joe.coffee for assistance.
  6. On the consumer app select the person icon in the top right hand corner to go to your profile.
  7. Select the Merchant tab followed by Pair Device. Scroll to choose your store name.
  8. Scan the QR code on your POS device to instantly pair.
  9. You will be given three different modes to choose from:

  10. Select Options 1 "Point of Sale Barista Facing"
  11. This device is now set up to take in-person orders and accept mobile orders

2 - Sync consumer loyalty tablet

This tablet, including a stand, will face your customers. It will show customers their order ticket, they will be able to add a tip, pay with joe bucks via a QR code and this tablet will collect their phone number for loyalty points.

  1. Plug in, power on device and connect to reliable wifi source
  2. Update settings to enable 'Stay awake':
    1. In Settings > About tablet > Software information > Continuously tap "Build number" until you see "Developer mode turned on" > Return back to Settings > tap the new Developer options at bottom of screen > toggle on "Stay awake"

Final step in the tech set up is to sync your card reader to your POS iPad.

  1. Plug in bluetooth card reader cradle to reliable power source.
  2. Turn on bluetooth on your iPad.
  3. Power on the bluetooth puck card reader. A blue light flashing once every second indicates that the reader is on and ready to connect to the device. Note: The bluetooth card reader will turn off after 5 min if not connected
  4. On your joe POS device, select the Gear icon on the left sidebar to open Settings
  5. Select “Card Readers”. Select the BBPOS Chipper 2x from the Model dropdown menu, followed by Add Card Reader
  6. A steady blue light indicates the card reader is connected to the iPad.
  7. After connected, we recommend checking for an update by selecting the "Check for update" button on the Card Reader Status screen.

Now that these devices are paired and synced, the three will communicate with each other for an all-in one transaction. We recommend exploring the features of the joe POS to fully understand the functionality!
